In this page you will find my personal top 10 anime, manga and my top 5 visual novel. There is no particular order so there is no first place.
TOP 10 ANIME
Arguibly the best anime from Kyoto Animation, a good mix of beautiful art and interesting story.
Also the characters are strong and very well designed. On a side note the novel is better but this is a really nice adaptation, something that’s rare to see these days.
GUNDAM!!!! That’s an obligated entry for me, I love the gundam’s universe. Tomino created one of the best and succesfull frachise of all time, I personally set aside all the newer anime because the spot in the top ten is dedicated to the universal century.
With the universal century Tomino revolutionized the world of robot anime thats all I will say.
The story itself is awesome, if you didn’t see it I strongly recommend it.
Probably the most controversial entry. On an objective point of view FS/N shouldn’t be in the top. But this is my personal opinion and this spot is ment to be dedicated to my love for the visual novel, and even if this is an aweful adaptation I will keep it at least untill the new series by Ufotable comes out.
This is dedicated to Makoto Shinkai’s genius. He is probably the best at making the art for an anime his backgrounds are stunning, he is not the best story wise and his characters are one of the weakiest ever made in an anime. Anyway I still love his art style and I think that there is a lot of room for improvements.
The Kara no Kyoukai movie series, rappresented here by it’s fifth movie (witch I think is the best), is one of the masterpieces made by Ufotable with its amazing animations. The story itself follows the light novel series made by Nasu (one of my favorite authors)
One of the best Miyazaki’s production. All of his movies really need to be mentioned and legittimately have a spot on my top ten (but I can’t use every spot for them so I choose only one).
No more explanation needed because everyone have seen it and if you don’t go WATCH IT!!!
I really liked it. It has a unique way of telling the story, very nice animations and … I have to say … a nice soundtrack.
Just one of the few anime series that everyone should watch. You have another robot anime plus an amazing story and character development. If you didn’t like the animation or the art style, just think about giving the remake (or the manga) a chance.
A nice change in the mahou shoujo genre. Shaft’s animation style plus Urobuchi Gen’s story is just a perfect combination, the plot may have some holes here and there but nothing major.
This is dedicated to 3D animation. Fireball and Fireball Charming are a great example of beautiful 3D animation made outside of America. I personally think that Pixar is the best at making 3d animation (I know that I shouldn’t compare them because they have a different animation style).
TOP 10 MANGA
A collection of short stories in a single volume. In all honesty there is only one story that made me choose it for the top ten and it is “Hotel: Since 2079”. Boichi is known for Sun-ken Rock, Hotel is different and I’m going to say that this is better.
A light novel written by Urobuchi Gen, I love his stories and see an entire novel that combines my love for the Fate/Stay Night franchise and his story. It is also a great prequel Fate/Stay Night.
I really don’t know how to describe Solanin.
Since it’s only 2 volumes I did read it quite a few times and every single time I like it more, why? I don’t know, probably because it manages to describe the feelings and experiences of people in their mid/late twenties with characters you will actually care about.
Another strange manga, if you read the summary you probably are not going to read it. A manga that talk about masturbation will never get the popularity that it deserve.
This manga is not an hentai. This manga is all about evolution and redemption of the main character.
An awesome story that focus on Punpun’s life. It cover the growth of Punpun and define his character.
The story itself is dark and sometimes can make the reader feel uncomfortable.
It’s almost like Onani Master Kurosawa, it’s a strange manga I like it but at the same time I don’t. At first the ending is what made it one of my favorite but when I think about it that is probably the only thing that I really liked.
To me Tokyo Ghoul is a strange manga because I don’t know if I really like it or not… The last chapters seems “constructed” and sometimes rushed, but the overall story is good and doesn’t lack character development. In the end I think it’s a good read and deserve a spot in this top 10.
True vampires never sparkle…
This is the one of the best vampire manga you will read with lots of interesting characters.
I don’t think I have to explain why this is here. Just read it if you didn’t already!!
TOP 5 VISUAL NOVELS
Even if I didn’t play all visual novels of the franchise I liked this one and I want to play them as soon as possible.
This is just my favorite visual novel, nice story. Of the three routes my personal favorite id Unlimited Blade Works (Rin’s route) and as a close second Heaven’s Feel (Sakura’s route).
I like Type Moon’s visual novels, Tsukihime is a beautiful visual novel. It has a deep dark story and if you choose the wrong path it gets even darker and unforgiving.
It’s one of the few visual novels where sometimes you can’t predict if you are going to get a bad ending.
Why white album 2 and not the first one? I enjoyed the sequel more than the original, the introductory chapter feels like a book, you have a single ending and a linear plot.
If you think it’s short and boring you have the closing chapter with multiple endings and way more choices (with plenty of drama).
